A few things that are important to me as a Canadian bridal designer & dressmaker.

From opening my first atelier in Victoria in 2009, to running my current studio in Calgary, Alberta, I have been hand making wedding dresses for almost 2 decades. Here are a few things that have remained important to me over the years.

Ethical Production: In almost every industry, there is always a temptation to have something made for cheaper. Having personally made hundreds of wedding gowns, I can attest to the fact that making wedding dresses takes a huge amount of skill, and is a lot of hard work. No matter where is it made, it is hard work and takes a lot of time and effort. The only factor that determines the pricing is whether the person making it is getting paid or not. Abigail of Gardenia gowns and accessories have been, and always will be ethically produced in my Canadian studio using only the highest quality, vegan fabrics.

Affordable Pricing For a High Value item: The highest quality does not always mean the highest price point, and I have always strived to design items that I can produce for a reasonable and fair price. The biggest decision I made to ensure this remained true for Abigail of Gardenia, was choosing a designer direct business model. For some years I retailed my designs to bridal shops, but it came to a point where I would have been forced to increase my prices 100% to continue, because the bridal industry has settled into a minimum of a 100% retail markup on wedding gowns. So keeping my company smaller and designer direct enables me to avoid this high retail markup, and offer brides the highest possible value in the purchase of their wedding gown.

Human Connection: When a bride reaches out to Abigail of Gardenia, it is me behind the keyboard thougthfully responding to every message. I make a point of keeping my business free from automation, and AI imagery is never used in any way shape or form. Purchasing a wedding dress is a big investment, and I am committed to giving you a return on that investment by providing genuine, high quality service.

Unique & Authentic Design That Not Only Looks Beautiful, but Feels Beautiful: I don't follow bridal trends, but rather I follow the way of the flower, which to me is a classic and unforgettable design, whose timeless beauty never fades away. Each season I develop my designs, and certain aspects that are tried and true I don't change. Comfort & fit is a huge factor in my design process, because I want a gown to feel more like being enveloped in the soft petals of a flower, rather than reshaped into a marble statue. I have developed totally unique, soft structure pattern designs that not only look beautiful, but feel beautiful to wear.
